Training Calendar for Education Professionals

Liverpool – Winter 2015

Shine Therapy Services is an established multi – disciplinary private consultancy offering paediatric occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy throughout the North West.

Their specialism is the delivery of services within education settings: nurseries, mainstream, specialist and independent schools and pupil referral units. They currently provide services to 20+ mainstream schools throughout Lancashire and Merseyside.

This winter they are holding a series of training sessions for education professionals (e.g. Head Teachers, Teachers, Teaching Assistants, etc.) in the Liverpool area. The focus of the programme is primarily upon speech, language and communication development in schools, but they will also touch upon sensory integration.

CALENDAR

4th November 2015 – Introduction to Speech, Language and Communication Development in Schools

An introduction to the benefits that can be derived from promoting speech, language and communication development in schools and the opportunities available to create communication friendly learning environments.

11th November 2015 – Colourful Semantics

An introduction to a technique that aims to help children with their understanding of expressive vocabulary, sentence structure and grammar.

25th November 2015 – Vocabulary

An explanation of how children learn new vocabulary, including phonology, syntax and semantics, and how this learning can be facilitated effectively.

2nd December 2015 – Speech and Sound Production
An explanation of the production of speech sounds, including how and where they are made and the typical child developmental ages of each sound.

9th December 2015 – Blank Question Levels

An introduction to a technique that focuses on the complexity of questions presented to children in the classroom and how questions may need to be adapted to their level of understanding, particularly for those children with speech and language problems..

13th January 2015 – Introduction to Sensory Integration in the Classroom

Introduction to sensory processing difficulties and how they can affect a child’s ability to successfully access learning, play and social situations.

All sessions are to be held between 1pm – 3:30pm at the Isabella Trust Community Room, 60 – 64 Townsend Lane, Anfield, Liverpool, L6 0BA.

The first session is free of charge; all sessions thereafter are £20 per place.

Booking is essential. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
